An Oceanfront Cottage

This small house is a shingle style cottage facing Block Island Sound which I custom designed for a client. It is currently under construction. Please enjoy the progress photos.

The cottage has huge windows on two stories facing the view, and the major living space is on the ground level with easy access to the patio and outdoor fireplace.

The second floor has the bedrooms and the front door which opens onto a fun staircase inviting guests to the first floor open living room, dining and kitchen area. There is a large second floor deck overlooking the ocean view, and the master bedroom has a curved dormer looking onto Block Island Sound.

The entire house is just about 2000 square feet, yet it has 3 bedrooms and plenty of living space, not to mention a great patio on the beach for outdoor summer living!

Its modern yet traditional shingle style design fits in well with the small beach cottages in the area.

The windows, deck and patio of this house overlook Block Island Sound. The trim and shingles are on; almost finished!

The front of the house is finished with trim and shingles which need little maintenance.

This end of the house shows the Master Bedroom suite windows. The square windows open into the large tile shower for privacy yet light. The long windows toward the water wrap with the remaining Master Bedroom windows and french doors onto the deck and provide a panoramic view of Block Island Sound.

The Master Bedroom eyebrow window and curved dormer will be visible from the interior, as you can see from this framing progress photo.

The future Dining and Kitchen areas look toward the utility room and 1st floor bath in this framing progress photo. The funky stairs which add interest because of the unusual angles provide a view to the ocean as you descend the stairs from the front entry into the open plan Living Room.

From the open plan where the Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room all flow into each other, yet are separated by the stairs and the L shaped floor plan, you are able to have magnificent views of the ocean from any point on the first floor. When framed in the french doors will open onto the beach side patio.

The beginning! The foundation has been poured and the first floor and second floor platform have been framed. The house starts to take shape! In front is the patio.
